Would you like to live in a country with perfect golf courses and where you don’t pay taxes? Today we are going to tell you which countries and specific courses make this possible. The courses we are going to talk about not only offer you unbeatable conditions for the game, but they are also located in countries that do not ask you to go through the cashier and pay taxes on your income.

Barbados

One of the top activities in Barbados is definitely snorkelling. It is known worldwide for its perfect visibility, warm waters and almost limitless marine life.

Barbados not only offers you beautiful beaches, the best food and excellent conditions for snorkelling and diving; but also some tax advantages and, obviously, golf courses.

From a tax perspective, Barbados is not directly a tax haven, but has created an option with the Digital Nomad Visa, for example, with which you can live tax-free in Barbados for twelve months (you will be taxed in your home country). Only when you are considered a resident of Barbados do you have to pay taxes on your worldwide income. However, the tax rates are limited. On the first $25,000 you pay 12.5% income tax. Everything above that is taxed at 28.5%. For foreigners, however, there is the option of choosing a non-dom system. This means that you are only taxed on what you bring into the country.

The main reason why you are reading this article is, for sure, the golf courses Barbados has to offer. Two outstanding courses can be listed here.

The Royal Westmoreland Golf Course

This golf course is considered one of the best in the Caribbean and was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. As a guest, you can use the course for $600.00 per day. Tee time is between 10:00 and 11:00 in the morning. If you want to play indefinitely, you have to become a club member.

Unfortunately, this is not so easy as the conditions are very strict. If you are not a Barbadian resident, you can obtain membership by meeting certain requirements. For example, you can set up a company in Barbados, hire Barbardians and become a member through an initial fee of $100,000. In addition, of course, there is the annual fee of $16,225. Another alternative to becoming a member is to buy a house or villa in the resort. The advantage of this is that you can play unlimited golf. However, you still have to pay the $100,000 entry fee and $16,225 annual fee.

However, once you have overcome these hurdles, there is nothing to stop you from enjoying your golf on one of the most beautiful courses. The Royal Westmoreland Golf Course is an 18-hole championship golf course near the town of Holetown in Barbados. It is located on a small hill and offers you a beautiful view of the Caribbean Sea and the surrounding area. The course is known for its well-manicured fairways and greens and has a number of water hazards and sand bunkers. The clubhouse at Royal Westmoreland offers a bar, restaurant and lounge where golfers can relax after their round. In addition, there are of course a number of facilities such as a pro shop, a practice area and a driving range.

Sandy Lane Country Club

Also in the town of Holetown, you can find the exclusive Sandy Lane Country Club. The course was designed by the renowned firm of Tom Fazio and consists of three 18-hole championship courses, the Green Monkey, the Country Club and the Old Nine.

The Green Monkey course is probably the most famous and prestigious course on the site, known for its spectacular views of the Caribbean and its challenges. The Country Club course is a traditional parkland course with a variety of water hazards and sand bunkers. The Old Nine course is a short and uncomplicated course that is ideal for beginners and intermediate golfers.

If you want to play here, you need either to be a member or purchase a day pass for around $300-400. If you are checked into their own hotel, you can use the course for a reduced daily fee.

Malta

Malta is a popular destination for perpetual travellers. We have also reported on Malta on several occasions, as it offers some tax advantages for individuals and entrepreneurs. Malta’s non-dom regime is based on the classic non-dom status of Great Britain. Foreign income is tax-free if it is not earned in Malta.

In addition, Malta is very attractive to investors, as any capital gains earned abroad are tax-free in Malta itself. Retirees and HNWI (High Net Worth Individuals) can sign up for the HNWI program and receive tax benefits.

As a true tax haven, Malta cannot be missing from our list of the most beautiful golf courses with tax benefits.

Royal Malta Golf Club

The Royal Malta Golf Club, founded in 1888, is the oldest golf club in Malta. The 18-hole course, located near the town of Marsa, was designed by the famous architect Harry Colt and is considered one of the best courses in the Mediterranean. The course offers you excellent views of the bay of Marsa and the sea. A clubhouse and a pro shop are also part of the golf club.

If you want to become a member, you must pay an annual fee of 1,896.00€, which is reduced to 1,259€ from the third year. You can get a day ticket for about 80,00€.

Costa Rica

If you earn your money online, are a trader or a pensioner and want to stay in one place for a long time, Costa Rica is one of the countries we recommend at Staatenlos for a tax-free life.

Costa Rica uses the territorial tax system. What this means for you in plain language is that you only pay taxes on income that is earned within Costa Rica. If your broker is not based in Costa Rica, you will not earn any trading profits. If you are a pensioner and receive your pension e.g. from Germany, this income is also completely tax-free.

In recent years, Costa Rica has become an international hotspot for golfers. Not only its outstanding golf courses, but also the breath-taking landscapes and views make golf here a unique experience.

Four Seasons at Peninsula Papagayo

The Four Seasons Resort at Peninsula Papagayo is home to one of the most spectacular golf courses in Central America: the Arnold Palmer Signature Course. Designed by famed golf architect Arnold Palmer, the 6,957-yard course offers you outstanding views of the surrounding area. There is a golf academy on site that offers lessons and training opportunities for golfers of all levels. The course is suitable for both beginners and advanced golfers, so you do not have to be a professional golfer to have fun on this course.

The 18-hole golf course is only accessible to guests of the hotel. The cost of golfing is of course not included in the price of accommodation. Green fees are $300.00 for adults and $125.00 for youth.

Reserva Conchal

The Reserva Conchal Spa & Golf Resort is home to one of the best golf courses in Costa Rica. The 18-hole course, located in the resort itself, is perfect for beginners as well as advanced players.

You cannot become a member here, as it is only available to hotel guests and other guests. If you stay at the Westin Hotel, W Hotel or the Conchal Condominium, green fees are between $150.00 and $170.00 per day.

For external guests, there are special 3 or 5 day packages that allow unlimited golf. The 3-day package costs between $330.00 and $405.00, and the 5-day package costs between $500.00 – $610.00, depending on which month you wish to play.

Cariari

Cariari Country Club is an 18-hole golf course located near the city of San José, Costa Rica. It was designed in the 1970s by the famous golf architect George Fazio and is considered one of the best courses in the country. The course offers challenges for all levels throughout its 6,722 metres. You will find a driving range, pitching and putting greens and a golf academy that offers lessons for beginners and advanced players.

The course is also home to the Cariari Golf & Country Club, a private club that gives you access to all the course facilities as a member. Membership starts from $500.00 per month.

Visitors can golf for a fee ranging from $65.00 to $85.00.

La Iguana

Both members and external guests can golf in this course. If you stay at the park’s own hotel, you will get a discounted daily rate.

If you decide to become a member here, you can use the golf course indefinitely. The annual fee for this is $4,520.00. If you would also like to use the gym and spa, you will have to pay another $500.00 per year.

If you stay as a guest in their own resort, the green fee is $175.00. If you are a completely external guest, without staying in a hotel, the green fee is $195.00.

Mauritius

Are you an investor, trader and golfer? Then Mauritius might be the perfect place for you!

Mauritius stands out in this list because of its unconditional tax exemption on capital gains. Unlike Costa Rica, Mauritius does not offer a territorial tax system, but an attractive local system. If you are an entrepreneur and have your company outside Mauritius, you will effectively pay only 3% tax. We find this quite respectable.

In our blog article about Mauritius, you will find all the other important information about the island.

However, let us talk about the two most beautiful golf courses on the island!

The Links at Belle Mare Plage

The Links at Belle Mare Plage is an 18-hole golf course in Mauritius, located in the east of the island, which offers spectacular views of the Indian Ocean. The course was designed by Rodney Wright and Peter Alliss, and was built by the renowned firm Peter Harradine Golf Course Architects.

The course is 6,742 yards long and has a par of 72. It is suitable for both beginners and advanced golfers and offers challenges such as water hazards and deep ravines.

The course has a number of amenities, including a driving range, putting green and golf pro shop. There is also a restaurant and bar where you can relax after your successful golf day.

The golf course is part of the Belle Mare Plage luxury resort and is only accessible to guests of the hotel. A big plus here is that the green fees are already included in the accommodation price. Unfortunately, anyone who also needs a caddie has to pay for it, since it is not part of the course fee.

Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club

Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course in Mauritius, located on the island of Ile aux Cerfs off the east coast of the island, offering spectacular views of the sea. The course was designed by Bernhard Langer and built by LeisureCorp.

The course is 6,765 yards long and has a par of 72. It is suitable for both beginners and advanced players and offers challenges such as water hazards and deep ravines.

Part of the Ile aux Cerfs luxury resort, the course can also be played without checking in at the hotel. As the course is located on an island, you will be taken to the island by shuttle boat before playing. The costs for the transport are already included in the green fee. This amounts to approx. 180.00€.

Those who wish to join the club can do so for an annual fee of about €2,300. There are also seasonal memberships that start at around €1,100.00 per month.

Dubai

Probably the most famous tax haven. With 0% tax on a personal level (9% corporate tax for Mainland companies) and only 5% VAT, Dubai offers the perfect environment to enjoy your golf in peace.

If you would like to set up a company in Dubai, we offer you our local company formation service.

Emirates Golf Club

The Emirates Golf Club is a prestigious golf club in Dubai. It is located in the heart of Dubai. The club offers two 18-hole golf courses: the Majlis and Faldo courses. Both courses are designed by world-class designers and offer a challenge for golfers of all levels.

The Majlis course is the older of the two courses and was designed by Karl Litten. It is known for its difficult water hazards and beautiful views of the surrounding area. The Faldo course is a little younger and was designed by Nick Faldo. It is a modern course with many challenges and spectacular views as well.

You will find everything a golfer’s heart desires at the club. These include a golf shop, a restaurant, a lounge and a bar. There is also a gym, pool and sauna. The club regularly organises golf competitions and events for its members and guests.

If you want to learn how to play golf, the club offers a professional golf school run by experienced golf instructors. Both individual and group lessons are available for golfers of all levels.

The annual fees are – according to Dubai – not cheap at all, starting at around 13,500.00€.

If you want to try out the courses individually, it will cost you 440 AED (110,00€) for the Faldo course and 740 AED (185,00€) for the Majlis course.

Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club

If you are looking for a luxurious club for golf and yachting, you have come to the right place! Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club is located in the heart of Dubai and offers a unique combination of golf and yacht luxury.

The club’s golf course is an 18-hole championship course designed by Thomas Björn. The course is renowned for its challenges and spectacular views of Dubai Creek.

The club’s yacht club offers you a variety of services, including yacht charters, boat rentals and marina berths. There are also several restaurants and bars where you can enjoy the view of the creek.

Membership fees vary between the packages offered. For example, the Full Golf Membership costs AED 31,500 (approx. €8,000.00) per year, along with an initiation fee of AED 10,000 (approx. €2,500.00). The Young Professional Membership for members under 35 years of age costs 24,000 AED (approx. 6,000.00€). For the leisure membership you have to pay an admission fee of AED 1,575 (approx. 400.00€) and an annual membership fee of AED 11,000 (approx. 2,800.00€).

Panama

Panama is a very popular country within the Staatenlos community. A perfect country for perpetual travellers with territorial taxation: Panama offers everything you need for a tax-free life.

Approximately 90% of the inhabitants of Panama do not pay taxes. So why not be one of them?

You want to play golf in Panama? No problem! We have you covered.

Buenaventura Golf Club

The Buenaventura Golf Club is an exclusive golf club in Panama, located in the Buenaventura residential area. The course was designed by the famous golf architect Nicklaus Design and opened in 2007. You will find an 18-hole championship course with a length of approximately 6,831 metres.

The course is known for its challenges and spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding mountains. The club also organises regular competitions and events for its members and guests.

Membership costs US$265.00 per month for foreign residents.

Conclusion

No matter which golf course you choose. The important thing is that you live your life the way you want to. Choose the right course for you and optimise both your tax burden and your overall freedom! You will see that you will enjoy your golf game even more!
